An assessment becomes valuable when it leads directly to action.
A score is not a learning pathway
A score can summarize performance, but it cannot teach the child.
Even a detailed report may not tell a parent exactly how to sequence the next several months of learning.
For example, knowing that a child struggles with fractions is useful. But fractions involve several connected skills:
- multiplication and division;
- equivalence;
- factors and multiples;
- number-line understanding;
- proportional reasoning;
- and comfort working with parts of a whole.
The next step should depend on which of those foundations is missing.
Giving the child a general fractions workbook may simply repeat material that is either too easy or still too advanced.
The child needs a precise starting point
The most useful assessment result is not a label.

That starting point should be low enough that the child can experience success, but high enough that they are still learning.
For an uneven learner, this may be different across several mathematical areas.
A child could need foundational work in number sense while being ready for more advanced work in patterns or geometry.
